FAQA
I’m not sure if this career is right for me.
Our program offers a trial period with flexible options so you can experience the role and see firsthand its benefits before committing long-term.
For over five years, I had the privilege of driving a mobile outreach clinic in Columbus, Ohio, alongside two strong, powerful women—a nurse practitioner and a nurse. Together, we traveled to different locations, enrolling Veterans for healthcare and making a difference in their lives.
One rainy, cold day, we set up at a Tractor Supply parking lot for an outreach event. To our surprise, men hovered in the cold, waiting patiently for us to enroll them. There were 13 Vietnam Veterans and 2 WWII Veterans, each brave and proud.
As I approached the clinic, a man came onto the mobile unit, trembling with a shaking hand. He held out a yellow piece of paper—a telegram. It read: "We are sorry to inform you that your son was shot in the head in Vietnam." My heart went out to him.
I looked up, smiled warmly, and said, "You are that man." He nodded and confirmed, "Yes, I am." In that moment, I felt an immense sense of pride. Enrolling this Veteran for his medical benefits was more than just paperwork—it was a act of recognition and respect for his service and sacrifice.
Join us to share many more stories like this. Among us Veterans, there is strength—strength in numbers. Let us stand together, support each other, and be strong together.
While working in outreach with the VA clinic, I organized an event on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It was too cold to have my mobile unit outside, so I set up a table indoors instead. An older gentleman approached me and said, "I've had so many people try to get me into the VHA, but none of them have succeeded." I replied, "You haven't had me," and I helped him complete his paperwork.
Three years later, when the VA was short on drivers, I volunteered to pick up patients that day. I remember my first patient—you might guess who—he looked at me and said, "You don’t remember me, do you?" I paused, and he continued, "You saved my life. You enrolled me into the VHA, and I have diabetes now and am on insulin. You saved my life."
What a blessing it is—how we are there for each other often without even realizing it. Every act of kindness can make a profound difference.
